FreeNAS is a free and open-source operating system designed for building network-attached storage (NAS) systems. Based on the FreeBSD operating system and the OpenZFS file system, FreeNAS provides robust and reliable storage solutions for home users, small businesses, and enterprises.
In this article, we are going to understand, how we can present ISCSI Storage to VMware Environment using FreeNAS with ISCSI Protocol.

- Here is the Current configuration that i have on my FreeNAS Appliance wrt to the Network Interfaces.
- I have 3 Network Interfaces out of which 1 is Management and the other 2 are storage.
- From the Left Side Menu, Select Sharing (1) >Block Share(ISCSI) (2)
- Select Portals (3)
- Click Add (4)
- Now here you can Give it a Description and add the IP Address for the Network Interface.
- You can add multiple interfaces here.
- Select the Next Tab from the Top for “Initiators”
- By Default, the All Allowed Rule is added.
- If you want to enter the Initiator Details manually you can enter the address for ISCSI Intiator from ESXi Host.
- Now just to Targets from the Top Menu and Click Add.
- Here now you can enter the Target-related details along with the Auth Method incase if you want to use CHAP.
- Hit Save
- Go to Extent and Click Add
- Enter the Details of your extent while selecting the Storage pool Volume that you created earlier.
- Now Select the Associated Targets > Add
- Enter all the Details like LUN ID, and select the Extent.
