VMware Tools is a suite of utilities and drivers that enhance the performance and manageability of virtual machines (VMs) running on VMware hypervisors like ESXi and VMware Workstation. Installing VMware Tools is essential for optimizing the guest operating system’s interaction with the host system.
While we are very capable of seeing all the bright colors, sometimes the life of an IT Administrator is not very colorful. Earlier it was Unix or Linux People who used to think like this but Microsoft Folk has also joined the Team, all thanks to Windows Server Core Installation.
In this article we will learn how to Install the VMWare Tools on Windows Server Core Installation.
In order to make this work please follow the below Steps.
- From vCenter Client, if you will select the Windows Server VM where you want to install the VMware Tools you will see the option below:
2. Now you can launch the Web Console for the VM and Run the following commands:

This will switch to d Volume where VMware has mounted the VMware Tools Disk.
setup64.exe
3. Now from here it’s the usual Steps which you get from any GUI.
4. Now you can hit Next either using Mouse or Alt+N, Select all the default options, and then at the end click Install.
5. This is going to take its own time and once done you can restart the Server.
Once the server comes online you should see the VMware Tools install on the Windows Server.
