Presenting ISCSI Storage to an ESXi Host

iSCSI (Internet Small Computer Systems Interface) is a protocol that allows for the transmission of SCSI commands over IP networks. It enables the creation of storage area networks (SANs) using existing network infrastructure, providing block-level access to storage devices.

In This Article, we are going to understand, how we can present an ISCSI Storage to an ESXi Host.

For reference, i have already created an ISCSI Target using the FreeNAS which I have explained in the below article:

In This article, we are going to configure the ESXi Host so that we can see the Datastore on the ESXi Host.

For this Reference, I have an ESXi Host with Two Storage Networks 50.50.50.X and 60.60.60.X.

My Target IP is configured as 50.50.50.100 and 60.60.60.100.

To make this change we will select the ESXi Host > Configure > Storage Adapters >VMHBA65 (ISCSI Software Adapter)

  • Select Dynamic Discovery under ISCSI Properties and enter the IP Address of the Target.

  • Do this for both the Target Address

  • If you have Multiple Networks which are dedicated to Storage. You can go to Network Port Binding and select Add to add both the Storage network as below:

  • Post this you can Select Rescan Adapter and perform a Rescan on the Storage Device.

Now based on your Requirements you can go ahead and create a Datastore on Top.
