What’s New in vSphere 7.0 : Introduction to Dynamic DNS Client

With the introduction of Dynamic DNS, the Client has given vCenter a much-needed power to contact the DNS Server In case if there is any change in the IP address of the vCenter Appliance.

The DDNS client only updates the DNS server about changes to the vCenter Server IPs. No other infrastructure IP changes are captured, e.g. No changes to VMs or ESXi host IPs will be captured

Dynamic DNS Client

DDNS is responsible for the following tasks:
  • Updating DNS server about changes to IP addresses.
  • Sending Keep alive message to DNS server every day at 12:00 AM UTC.

Troubleshooting:

Log Name : ddns.log
Log location : /var/log/vmware/ddns.log
